The world Trend of Digital Collaboration
Digital
collaboration is the use of digital tools and technology to allow teams and
people to work together on activities and projects regardless of where they are
physically located. In order to facilitate communication, information exchange,
and project management, it entails the use of software, apps, and online
platforms.
The work-from-home (WFH) paradigm has been around for about three decades, it was when the epidemic a few years ago that it became widely accepted. Since then, the WFH model has been followed by millions of worldwide people as the norm. There were about three times as many people working remotely in 2021 than the 2019.
According to a one-year prediction from
the 2021 American Community Survey (ACS) of the U.S. Census Bureau, 17.9% of
Americans expressed support for the WFH environment between 2019 and 2021.
The majority of businesses started using
video conferencing software as work became more distant. Some of the several
systems that saw significant appeal are MS Office, Teams, Zoom, Google Meet,
and Google Workspace.
The WFH trend has its foundation on these
sites. Companies will need to adapt, though, as the recent trend of digital
cooperation continues to gain traction.
According to (Gratton and Scott 2017). They
contend that the development of digital collaboration tools and technology is
revolutionizing the way we communicate and collaborate. They contend that in
order to manage teams successfully in this new digital environment, leaders
must acquire new abilities and approaches.
The profession of human resource management (HRM) has been significantly impacted by the trend of digital collaboration. Here are several strategies HRM may use to control this tendency.
1.Recruitment: HRM
can use digital collaboration tools to conduct virtual recruitment, saving time
and resources for both HR and candidates.
2.Training and Development: HRM can provide online training and
development programs to employees, customized to meet their needs, from
anywhere, anytime.
3.Performance Management: Digital
collaboration tools can be used to monitor and evaluate employee performance.
HRM can use these tools to track employee progress, provide feedback, and set
goals for improvement.
4.Communication and Engagement: HRM may
encourage employee cooperation and communication by using digital technologies.
These tools may be used to establish virtual teams, exchange information and
concepts, and foster a sense of belonging among workers.
Digital media are being used as the primary means of communication and teamwork in contemporary business organizations as a result of online globalization and the digitization of corporate processes (Axtell, Fleck & Turner, 2004).
According to a recent poll by the Institute for Corporate Productivity, 80% of businesses with more than 10,000 workers are now using virtual forms of collaboration (Perry, 2008).

1.Reduced efficiency and productivity: Manual
HR processes may be error-prone and time-consuming. HR managers could find it
challenging to collect employee data, evaluate performance, and preserve

2.Limited access to talent: Companies who
do not embrace digital collaboration may find it difficult to draw and keep top
talent in today's globalized and remote work environment. Conventional hiring
practices like job posts, recommendations, and job fairs might not be enough to
reach a varied and scattered talent pool.
3.Increased risk of compliance issues: HR
managers must make sure that their procedures adhere to the law given the
constantly evolving rules and regulations. Without digital cooperation, there
may be a greater chance of non-compliance, which might result in expensive
penalties and legal disputes.

Digital collaboration
offers numerous advantages to HRM, such as improved efficiency, productivity,
communication, engagement, and workforce analytics. Organizations should adopt
these tools and technologies to stay competitive and manage their workforce
